Confused about Continuing Education Credits?

We get a lot of calls from clients wondering how long their credits with us will last for. The answer?  It depends. Please see the following excerpt taking directly from the Massachusetts Dental Society website:

Credit Hours Required for Dentists and Hygienists

A dentist licensed to practice dentistry in the Commonwealth must complete a minimum of 40 CEUs per renewal cycle. The two year cycle runs from April 1 to March 31 of even years, for example April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2016.

A hygienist  licensed to practice in the Commonwealth must complete a minimum of 20 CEUs per renewal cycle. The two year cycle runs from April 1 to March 31 of odd years, for example April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2017.

A dental assistant licensed to practice in the Commonwealth must complete a minimum of 4-6 CEUs in the  first renewal cycle no later than October 31, 2015. The next  two year cycle runs from November 1, 2015-October 31, 2017, ;renews on the odd years.

Part of the CEUs required for all dentists,  hygienists and assistants include a course in Infection Control in the dental health-care setting, and Certification in CPR/AED, or BLS (or a certification in ACLS or PALS in accordance with requirements for the level of anesthesia permit issued).

This means your credits in Infection Control will satisfy your requirements as long as the fall within the renewal cycle for your position. We recommend that your office has the training every year in order to make sure that every person in the office will always be satisfying the requirement.
